Labor Tribune: Domestic violence tragedy involving union painter prompts lawmaker to file bill creating extreme risk order of protection

On Nov. 7, family members say the 22-year-old was shot and killed at her Festus home in a domestic violence incident by her boyfriend, who then turned the gun on himself.

The legislation would create an extreme risk protection order, similar to a red flag law, allowing family members or members of a household to petition for temporary removal of firearms from individuals in mental health crises.
