How We’re Empowering Communities to Prevent Domestic Violence
California’s Domestic Violence Restraining Orders (DVROs) are designed to reduce intimate partner firearm violence and protect families. They provide immediate protection to individuals who are being harmed or threatened by a partner, family member, or roommate by temporarily requiring the respondent to surrender firearms. DVROs also impose additional safeguards, including limits on personal conduct and stay-away requirements. These protections prohibit the restrained person from contacting the petitioner or approaching their home, school, or workplace for the duration of the order.
